A mix of low temperatures and basic kitchen utensils is the key to keeping the meal moist and warm. Here I have a few steps for you that will help you to keep food warm in the oven without drying:

  1. Lower the oven temperature. Heat is provided by a hot oven set between 200 and 250 degrees Fahrenheit, but it is not high enough to dry food.
  2. Place the heating pad on the bottom of the food container. Heating pads, found in the health area of pharmacies and supermarkets, provide adjustable heat without losing the natural juices of the meal. Set the heating pad to level 6 or 7, depending on how much heat you want to use for food.
  3. Moisten the paper towel with water and cover the food. Remove the paper towel and meal in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. Once warmed, the moisture in the paper towel is absorbed into the food, which keeps the container soft.
  4. Heat the chicken or vegetable broth according to the packing instructions, then sprinkle the liquid on the container to keep it moist.

For things like pulled pork, I think this method works best. Remove the pork shoulder from the oven and set it aside before disassembling it and placing it in a frying pan covered with some stewing liquid – the drops of meat – and place in the preheated oven.

Extra Tips:

If you plan to keep your food hot for a long time, make sure it stays above 140°F by checking it regularly. Suppose your food gets too hot and dries out. Please turn off the oven for a few minutes and then turn it back on. The residual heat in the oven keeps your food warm while the oven is turned off.

One more tip that you should try is to heat the plates before serving. This will prevent the food from cooling down early.

The last tip that I prefer is, do not to cut the food into pieces; this will make the food cool down more early and quickly.


Since almost everyone owns an oven and rotisserie, it’s an attractive backup option if you don’t have a better chance.
